In December 2014, Ecopazifico had the privilege of being invited to contribute to the beach clean-up and environmental education of the island of Tierra Bomba. ⛰️
And when we say privilege it is because @namastebeachclub became one of our great allies and part of our family. 👨👩👧👧👨👩👧👧
This island located just 10 minutes from Cartagena, suffered from heavy plastic pollution and all kinds of waste.
The owners at that time of what began as a small hostel saw the importance of protecting the island’s ecosystem, and now thanks to them, Tierra Bomba is becoming a tourist destination, educating its guests to have a holistic life and conscious lifestyle.
Throughout the years, we made new local friends, @fundacion_bahia, and @amigosdelmar with whom we have been collaborating in our beach cleanup operations both on the Colombian Pacific coast and in the different communities of Tierra Bomba.
Thanks to these strong alliances, teamwork, perseverance, and the support of our sponsors, we are fulfilling the dream of installing these recycling stations on the island. ♻️🌊
But none of this would work without a strong environmental education campaign. ♻️
That is why we thank @guardia_ambiental_colombia who have done an impeccable job of socialization and are now also part of this dream that is becoming true with so much ease and grace. 😍🙏🏼
To celebrate Permaculture action week, the #Mapare mural, and the new recycling station, we ended the weekend with a wonderful beach and trail clean-up in the community of Punta Arena- Tierra Bomba-Cartagena!
More than 50 volunteers joined us, and we collected and classified 309.15 kg of waste in just 3 hours.
This structure is the resemblance of So many years of planning, effort, dedication, and perseverance for nature.
The station was built by the plastic wood factory @ecoazulco
This station prevented almost a ton of post-consumer plastic waste from entering marine ecosystems or ending up in landfills. ♻️
The materials to be collected in this station are:
Although glass and Styrofoam are recyclable materials, but not commercial in Colombia, we continue looking for a way to transform them in the territories to prevent them from reaching landfills. 🗑️
The recyclers of #Asocomangle de Punta Arena, will ensure that this beautiful station is kept clean. 🍃🍃
Infinite gratitude to all our allies and collaborators during this process:
The educational infographic of this station invites tourism once again to follow 3 steps to reduce pollution during the visit to the island. 🏝️🌊
We are very grateful to #fundacionCocacola @cocacolacol for supporting this beautiful cause, that is expunging throughout these coastal territories of our beautiful country: COLOMBIA
