The Beach Rangers, is a group of community members, that are proud to protect their beach and from plastic pollution. They get empowered to collect, sort, wash, weigh, pack, document, and transform the materials gathered from the beach into valuable products at the recycling centers.
Additionally, they actively engage in research studies and collaborate in large-scale waste removal operations alongside the Colombian Navy, volunteers, tourists, and fellow community members.

The beach rangers were born at the end of 2019, when we got sponsored to clean the beach and install 5 more recycling stations in Juanchaco and Ladrilleros,by UNILEVER and the Swedish Government in alliance with RECON FOUNDATION.
6 people from the community would now get a job for cleaning the beach.
We named them THE BEACH RANGERS: LOS GUARDAPLAYAS.
just as there are park rangers and forest rangers in all national parks, there should also be BEACH RANGERS.
We decided to make the best out of this sponsorship and created a whole study, that would help us determine the amounts of trash there were washing ashore with the tides, and also figure out what where the brands polluting the most in that part of the world, so that togehert with the industry we could come up more with alternatives.
6 community members could now work in this study, clean the beach and become a great example to their community. Everybody in the community wanted to be a BEACH RANGER. Getting paid to keep the beach clean , seemed like a really good deal, in a community where jobs are not easy to find.
We have been working with different groups of beach rangers ever since,in both the pacific and the caribbean territories and have now completed 3 full studies, with the help of these community members that are getting empowered through the habits of recycling and permaculture.
