This last visit of the year 2021 to the territory of Capurganá was very profitable because the ministry of the environment @minambientecol , the ministry of housing @minvivienda and the superintendence, with whom we visited the open-pit landfill, and the collection center, which are on the verge of collapse as almost all dumps of the Pacific , Atlantic, and the Colombian Caribbean.

Through environmental education and socialization programs, we must achieve that people become more empathetic and coherent with the environment where they live.

We hope that these ties and attention of the ministries to the territory, provide the necessary support to these communities that need it so much! Meanwhile, Ecopazifico will continue to manage with sponsors, allies and friends, the resources that can contribute to improving the recycling systems of the community and mitigate the arrival of waste to the landfill, which should become a sanitary landfill only for sanitary waste as its name suggests.

The real environmental heroes of Capurganá are the workers of the community council’s sanitation company: #Jacasep Thanks to their hard work in Capurganá there has not been an environmental catastrophe.

To celebrate Capurganá station #4 , the #Formidbales of Ecopazifico went to Sapzurro where their friends from @casamolahostel , to join forces and clean the beaches of the paradisiacal Cabo Tiburón.

Exaggerated amounts of micro plastics, bottles, and flip flops make the beauty of this paradise is interrupted by great frustration.

We collected: 38.27 kgs.

✨PET: 8.61 kgs.

✨Glass: 18.57 kgs

✨Rigid plastic: 6.09 kgs

✨Lightweight plastic: 4.0 Kgs

✨Metal: 1 kgs

We hope that soon we will be able to evacuate everything that is accumulated in the collection center and that both Bahía Aguacate and Sapzurro can stop burning their waste and that which arrives from the sea, in addition to income generation.

This fourth recycling station in Capurganá was built with 600 kg of post-consumer plastic by our friends from @ecoazulco, and transported from Cartagena to the territory by our dear @armadacolombia.

The theme of this socialization was to emphasize the practice of composting in the community. In it we prioritized native restaurants and hotels located in the sector of the station, among them @hotelrestaurantearrecife, @portobluemoon, @miramira_beach_hotel received us in 5 houses of the neighbors, we clarified doubts and shared some routines that already demonstrate a beginning of the correct disposal of animal waste. In addition, we identified that despite the fact that some of them already recycle plastic and cans, they mix the rest of the waste due to lack of knowledge, so the topic was reinforced with the hotels and in one of them with visitors and guests.

Part of this socialization exercise was the process of creating a blue crab, a species that abounds on the island, with caps collected by our allied foundation @amigosdelmar, and the support of the wonderful Brayan @descafeinad.o Valery @valerin98 and Diana’s daughter from @fundacion_bahia.

You can see this beautiful crab when you visit the Punta Arena community, along with the Hawksbill turtle by Diana Gomez @arteterapiamar, the parrot fish by Maria Antonia @mariantoniart and the sea horse by @marion.ve

We are very happy to have the environmental guard as an ally and our Guardaplayas firm with the environmental education of this territory.

To celebrate Punta Arena community recycling station #4 , we synchronized the beach cleanup with the full moon day.

Volunteers from @fundacion_bahia, @amigosdelmar, and @namastebeachclub, visited us to walk the beaches and trails and collect the waste that should not be in these areas, if not in the recycling station, in the collection center of #asocomangle , in @ecoazulco becoming plastic wood, or in some recycling factory in Colombia.

In this clean-up, we noticed that there was a lot of sachet packaging, especially candy and water bags.

After the day we celebrated in the facilities of the eco-hotel @namastebeachclub, to the rhythm of Afro-house, with @djmontiel.em and @elduardolopez, yoga classes by @pranapana, and ended the night with songs by @rodrigomancera and @johannamarin and then a beautiful cocoa ceremony with @pilotodrone, and a concert of Tibetan bowls with @micheff.g , @ginafegali, and @healandtravel.

We also showcased the crab created by Maria Antonia @mariantoniart , Brayan @descafeinad.o , Valery @valerin98 and Diana’s daughter from @fundacion_bahia

In Punta Arena the beaches are getting cleaner and people are putting the stations to very good use. That makes us very happy 😍😍😍.

Punta Arena already has its fourth recycling station #4 💪🥳.

This beautiful station was made with 600 kilos of recycled plastic wood by our friends from @ecoazulco , you can find it on the beach next to @portobluemoon restaurant on the pirate street!

At this station we remind locals how to compost step by step.

In communities like punta arena and remote and coastal places in Colombia , most people have a garden and patio where they can put all the organic waste they generate; fruit, vegetable and egg shells, coffee grounds, and also dry leaves and sticks, ash, sawdust, and even cardboard.

Just create a hole under a tree and mix your organic waste with a shovel once a week.

It is very easy to take care of the planet, we just need to change our habits and think about the future of the next generations.

Although many of them separate their trash, they are still getting used to the fact that the white bag is for recyclables and the black bag for ordinary.
In Capurganá a lot of cardboard comes out, it is very bulky and is sold at a very low cost in the city of turbo. In places like Bahía aguacate and Sapzurro, we see that it is better to use cardboard for composting than to accumulate it.

Many establishments give their organic waste to the town’s pigs, something that makes it much easier not to contribute to Capurganá’s open-pit landfill that is on the verge of collapse.

Ilana Levy @ilanadecolombia with her character Gladys from @caliclown gave a green card to those who give good waste management. Red card to those who don’t much and a yellow card to those who committed to improve!
We also handed out signage for recycling bins in Aguacate Bay, Sapzurro, and supermarkets in town. We hope that together with #Jacasep, the town’s cleaning company, these habits can be strengthened and people become aware of the future of the next generations!

This third recycling station was installed at the beginning of the path of a very magical place called Coquerita, leaving the beach of Capurganá. To get to this magical place, you have to walk 1 hour. It is one of the most beautiful walks you will ever do in your life.

Being such a secluded place, it is difficult to evacuate the debris that comes with the tides. However, it’s not impossible, we got together with @youngtravelersco travelers and the coquerita team and left one of the beaches spotless in just 3 hours.

At the end of the day when we thought we should walk back to town carrying sacks, a friendly boat showed up and offered to pick us up and take us back to town with the sacks. We felt that mother earth was thanking us for this work.
The beach was impeccable!

What we found the most on this beach were flip flops, rigid plastic and pet bottles.
The rigid plastic or #mapare, was great to make a mosaic, and the beach was full of divine rafts to make a little house with more time, more hands and more sacks we could create something beautiful in that spot!

In the cleanup 10 formidable participated and collected 131 kgs.
✨PET: 23 kg
✨Pasta: 45kg
✨Tapitas: 6 kgs.
✨Slippers: 57 kg

For the construction of this station 600 kilos of post-consumer plastic were used, it was built by our friends from @ecopazul, and transferred from Cartagena in the BDA ship of our beloved @armadacolombia.

This station has an infographic that teaches us step by step how to make compost in remote, coastal, paradisiacal, and ecosystemically rich places in Colombia, in order to reduce the generation of methane gas in landfills. This gas is 25 times stronger than carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, so returning organic waste to the land through composting is an excellent alternative to avoid the harmful effects of these gases in the environment.

They were with us in the titanic task of removing more than 17 tons of glass from the territory and with whom we began the adequacies of the future Permaculture center in the holistic hotel @Namastebeachclub.

The marines of Tierra Bomba @arc_fuerzanavaldelcaribe , learned about the recycling system, the 3 steps of the tourist, the 3 steps of the community, composting, and the technique of lasagna Gardening or vegetable garden lasagna. A way to do organic agriculture, using different layers of organic matter such as cardboard, sticks, straw, and soil to optimize the decomposition process.

We also created a compost bin, and these same methods will soon be replicated at the base of the island.

During that week the artist Maria Antonia Ruiz @mariantoniart from the island of San Andres, created a beautiful parrot fish with 1956 colorful bottle caps, to remind the inhabitants and visitors of Punta arena, the importance of taking care of marine species.

Do you know why this fish is called this way?
It has a curious dentition, it is like a compact block that serves to gnaw incessantly the reefs of its habitat. This structure resembles the beak of a parrot, which is why it is known by this name.

For the weekend of love and friendship, Ecopazifico and its allies @amigosdelmar @fundacion_bahía and @namastebeachclub, joined together to celebrate the international day of coastal regions, with a beach cleanup, in honor of the new recycling station installed in the territory.

In this cleanup we collected :
-Glass 71 kg
-PET 32 kg
-Rigid Plastic 5 kg
-Bottle caps 6 kg
-Ordinary 103 kg
-Aluminum 0.50 kg
-Scrap 6 kg

That day we exhibited the parrot fish mural made by our guest artist María Antonia Ruiz @mariantoniart and celebrated the rest of the day with yoga activities, and human mandalas at @namastebeachclub.

All these activities were done with the objective of inaugurating our recycling station #3 installed in the community of #puntaarena , which is becoming more and more beautiful. This station was manufactured by our friends from the plastic wood factory @ecoazulco with 600 kilos of recycled plastic wood.

In it both inhabitants and visitors will be able to dispose
these 4 recyclable materials:

-Plastic
-Glass
-Metal
-Icopor

The #guardaplayas of the environmental guard of Punta Arena, make sure that these 4 stations are kept clean, and the material is delivered to the association of recyclers of the community: Asocomangle.

The infographic of this station reminds us of 3 fundamental steps that we can follow to get used to live in a clean community:

1. Separate waste in each
   (recyclables, organic, sanitary)
2. Do not burn or bury waste in marshes, beaches or on trails.
3. Keeping the surroundings of each area clean at all times.
