In the Summer of 2023, and for our re-activation of Eco Pazifico e.V in Germany, we met the amazing @toska47 artist from Liege – Belgium, a City that from my point of view is becoming vibrant Thanks to the murals and art of TOSKA ! Just like hé Did in Bakalar- México, where you will find an amazing open air art gallery all over Town. Toska loves nature, and immediatley fell I love with @eco_pazifico ! Today, and all thé way from Belgium , Toska is part of thé SANTA MARÍA DEL CAMPANARIO artist résidence, in the mountains of Dapa , where we are planting an edible forest and working on the regeneration of the soil towards MENGA together with our friends of @lafrecuenciavioleta .

Toska’s paintings are for sale NOW , so this is an invitation to invest in art and not only contribute to the edible forest but also to the permaculture-recycled art interventions that will reach inland remote communities of Colombia. The profits will go towards this new decade of soil restoration , permaculture and environmental education through art , music, and cinema. stay tuned , because we will announce the launch of our crowd funding campaign very very soon!

art is available to be world wide shipped, and you will receive a certificate of donation as well!
if you are in Colombia and want to make an appointment to visit Toska’s atelier in Colombia to check out his new collection, get in touch via whatsapp ONLY : +57 3104221553 or in Belgium to check out his European pieces : +32 493359967

The Beach Rangers, is a group of community members, that are proud to protect their beach and from plastic pollution. They get empowered to collect, sort, wash, weigh, pack, document, and transform the materials gathered from the beach into valuable products at the recycling centers.

Additionally, they actively engage in research studies and collaborate in large-scale waste removal operations alongside the Colombian Navy, volunteers, tourists, and fellow community members.

Join our cause and help us improve the Beach Ranger program by donating uniforms, working mateirals, tools, and the numerous things that will make their work space a happy place.nsform the materials gathered from the beach into valuable products. Additionally, they actively engage in research studies and collaborate in large-scale waste removal operations alongside the Colombian Navy, volunteers, tourists, and fellow community members.

The beach rangers were born at the end of 2019, when we got sponsored to clean the beach and install 5 more recycling stations in Juanchaco and Ladrilleros,by UNILEVER and the Swedish Government in alliance with RECON FOUNDATION.

6 people from the community would now get a job for cleaning the beach.

We named them THE BEACH RANGERS: LOS GUARDAPLAYAS.

just as there are park rangers and forest rangers in all national parks, there should also be BEACH RANGERS.

We decided to make the best out of this sponsorship and created a whole study, that would help us determine the amounts of trash there were washing ashore with the tides, and also figure out what where the brands polluting the most in that part of the world, so that togehert with the industry we could come up more with alternatives.

6 community members could now work in this study, clean the beach and become a great example to their community. Everybody in the community wanted to be a BEACH RANGER. Getting paid to keep the beach clean , seemed like a really good deal, in a community where jobs are not easy to find.
We have been working with different groups of beach rangers ever since,in both the pacific and the caribbean territories and have now completed 3 full studies, with the help of these community members that are getting empowered through the habits of recycling and permaculture.

We design waste management systems according to what is already implemented in each community. We are always looking forward to improving environmental habits and methods through small-scale machinery that can transform plastic and glass into commercial goods, providing alternative sources of income and fostering a culture of recycling within these communities. You can also help us replicate this model, generate alternative jobs and change peoples lives by protecting our ecosystems.

Most coastal communities of Colombia do not count with recycling facilities, or any type of recycling habits nor waste management systems.

Ecopazifico first started as a permaculture and art program, where we thought in our perfect world that we would be just turning all this plastic into art and live happily ever after, protecting the whales while making what we love.

As we started the project we realized that the inhabitants of the pacific coast have no other choice than to burn and bury their trash, and even locals, tourists, and cargo boats just throw it all mixed up in plastic bags into the sea, creating a never ending story of plastic pollution invasion in those prestige ecosystems.

That’s when we realized that our project had to design a waste management system for the community, introducing the basics of recycling and creating new and simple environmental habits for the new generations.

We started writing letters, and having meetings, calls, appointments and all types of lobbying with government institutions and realized that many institutions had tried to figure out how to keep those beaches clean, but the challenges are just incredibly huge.

its far, its raining all the time, electricity is really intermittent, and all types of dangers are to be encountered, mosquitoes can kill you, poisonous snakes can bite you, strong ocean currents can drag you, and not to mention the drug and armed forces cartels that love to make their moves around this remote places.

The community is really tired not only from cleaning the beach, but also tired of the promises made and not kept by the government.

So they just gave up, the easy way out is to bury and burn their mixed waste any where they can. including the public beach.

We identify three main types of waste:

Recyclables

Organic

STYROFOAM

These materials should be collected by the Beach Rangers or the local navy truck, and brought to the recycling center.

Sanitary waste:

This is the real problem.

This type of waste should be buried in your own backyard and never t in the public beach.

( this is obviously a government issue, but since in these remote places there are no aqueducts, sewage, landfills, nor waste management systems we do consider that the less harmful way to deal with toilet paper is by burying it. The problem is when people use diapers, tampons, pads, and other hygiene products containing plastic … So frutrating…. What would you do?

We designed an Environmental Education program and have been campaigning since 2014 so that both inhabitants and tourists behave according to the fragile ecosystem that surrounds us.

1.Bring your own reusable utensils when you come visit, so that you avoid single use plastics

2.Help out cleaning the beach

3.go back to your hometown with your own trash and the one you collected on the beach.

3 steps for community:

2. Do not litter, burn or bury any type of waste on the public beach

3. Deal with sanitary waste in your own property.

I Know this last one seems surreal, but sanitary waste is the biggest real problem.

Toilets in Colombia are not as sophisticated as in Europe or first world countries.

You always need to deposit your toilet paper into a separate bin, otherwise toilets get clogged.

If you would only not use plastic tampons, pads, diapers, q-tips, band-aids, etc… you could just compost it. So we are trying to convince women and the population to turn into menstrual cups, reusable fabric pads or diapers, and even talking about more advanced subjects like the free bleeding movement and the elimination-communication non-diaper practices for parents.

If your company makes eco-friendly sanitary products and you feel like contributing to these remote coastal communities in order to protect the ecosystems, do get in touch with us

This program is designed for schools, universities, or private companies.

Our approach is highly adaptable, with program design customized to the unique needs, culture, and social structure of each community. We take great care to align our efforts with existing environmental education initiatives, collaborating with organizations and educators already active in the community. Our belief in the power of cooperation drives us to work closely with these partners, optimizing our teaching methods and resource utilization.

The Permaculture Action Week serves as an invitation to embrace responsibility and ingenuity in how we utilize our remaining resources and make conscious choices in our dietary habits. We firmly believe that our program can play a vital role in contributing to the overall well-being of our planet.
