The secretary of Tourism of Valle del Cauca had the initiative to improve tourism in the beautiful beach town, “LA BOCANA”; making a day of murals to beautify a section of the beach. Located just 20 minutes from Buenaventura; this town has been victim of the devastating plastic pollution that comes from different parts of the city, port and touristic peer.
All though we worked really hard for 2 days, you could not see the difference on the beach! The beach was mostly cover by styrofoam. So, we decided to focus on one little spot to leave it completely clean. Took us 4 hours! with the next tide, this little spot was full of trash again!
20 artists from Santiago of Cali, painted the facades with beautiful designs and murals that brought the town back to live! The secretary asked Ecopazifico to do the beach clean up to welcome volunteers, artists and government officials that came for this event.
The day of the event, we developed a day of environmental education with the children and we give people a bag of reusable material from the campaign: “I love my beach, I no longer use plastic bags”. Today, you can participate sending your pics with the hastag #chaobolsasplasticas #goodbyeplasticbags by instagram #usereusablemarketbags.
We also, we also show to the community the beautiful Stingray out of black flip flops, made by our resident artist MIRYAM HERRERA with the help of our volunteers and the army!
